(Central, La.) – The Central Chamber of Commerce launched a shop local campaign called “Hello Local” during the governor’s stay at home mandate to support local businesses and educate people on the impact of shopping locally in the Central Community.
“Local business owners live and work in Central and invest in the community in immeasurable ways. For that alone people should shop local, but on top of that, when money is spent in Central the tax dollars are reinvested to make it better,” said Ron Erickson, Central Chamber CEO.
To encourage local spending the Chamber is holding a giveaway. Currently, 38 businesses have registered for free to participate and more are still joining. Customers who spend at least $10 at a participating business and post using the hashtag #HelloLocalCentral hashtag will be entered to win either an iPhone 11 or Louis Vuitton bag in the second week of August.
“Educating people on the importance of shopping local is a huge goal of Hello Local,” said Darci Perkins, local business owner and Chamber Board member. “If everyone simply bought their gas within Central, our schools would see a funding increase of $800,000.00.”
For every $100.00 spent in Central, Central schools receive $2.50, the City receives $2.00 and $1.50 is used for infrastructure.
The Central Chamber published updates as local businesses reopened after the stay at home was lifted. Information about hours and special procedures for local businesses can be found on the Chamber’s “Business Status” webpage, on Facebook or on their Instagram account @CentralChamber. They have also produced spotlight videos for 19 businesses so far to bring public awareness to their services and availability.
If any Central businesses would like the Chamber to share their updated information, film a spotlight video, or participate in the Hello Local giveaway, they should call Alexis Flores at (225) 261 – 5181 or email at email@example.com.
